Once I became a freelancer, how do I promote and sell my services?
Self-promotion (on social media or your blog) and selling your products and services is not easy.
A thousand doubts assail us – Are we pretty good, are we entirely original, have we set prices correctly?
Let’s face it right away: the perfect magic formula does not exist.
But there are things we can do to try to succeed with our independent business. Whatever it is.
1) Know your target very well – If you want to sell something, you need to know who you sell it to.
If you do not know who you want to sell your products or services, you will never know how, when, and where to do it.
So study your target audience well and identify your customers.
2) Know yourself (and your fears) – when we struggle to do something (or we don’t do it at all), something is likely wrong.
Are we afraid of what people think? Are we afraid of failure?
If we do not know what it is that scares us; we will hardly overcome it.
So ask yourself what makes you so nervous about self-promotion. You will see that then it will be easier to find a solution to the problem if you know what it is.
3) Sell, pretending not to sell – this is a bit complex.
What I mean is that if you promote your work you don’t like it because you hate selling, you have to try to look at it from another point of view.
Think about the benefits your product or service brings to other people.
Have you written an ebook and not put it for sale online because it seems strange that someone will pay for it?
Think about the help it can give to people who read it: will they learn something new, unlock a situation that made them suffer, reach their goals faster and better?
Whatever the advantage you offer, think about it!
You are helping people by giving them what they need.
Isn’t it a more exciting prospect?
4) Practice. If we want to learn how to self-promote ourselves and sell our work, we must practice.
Let us think of our self-promotion discourse and repeat it aloud, to infinity until we feel more secure.
We will never sell anything if we stutter when presenting it.
We must believe in ourselves and our product, and learn to give it with confidence.
